Biomass

Forest Mission

Mission Status: To be launched
Instrument Type: Imaging microwave radars

Biomass is designed to measure the global distribution of forest biomass and its changes over time. The mission will provide information on how forests are changing, which will help to inform decisions on global forestry management and climate change mitigation strategies.

Scientific Instruments

The P-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) will determine the amount of biomass and carbon stored in forests. By capturing and analysing microwave radar data, Biomass will enable scientists to quantify forest biomass and monitor changes, contributing to a deeper understanding of Earth's forests and their role in global ecosystems.
